The new museum of the Bauhaus in Dessau is envisioned as the living room of Dessau. The museum complements the surrounding park and cityscape to create an extended public space. The Bauhaus sought to break the boundary between art and everyday life. By opening the museum to visitors and local resident alike, the Bauhaus Museum does the same. The overall design of the museum provides a secure and flexible space for museum collections, facilitates connection between the park and surrounding cityscape, and welcomes and engages visitors. As both a cultural and civic institution, is the key to realizing Dessau as a Bauhaus City.
